Animal Rights Activists Suspect Mass Cat Poisoning in Nicosia

Animal welfare activists are raising the alarm following the sudden disappearance of dozens of cats in the village of Astromeritis, located in western Nicosia. The Animal Action Group of the Ecological Movement “Citizen Cooperation” believes the cats may have been deliberately poisoned and is calling for an urgent investigation.

According to Philenews, local residents who regularly care for stray animals reported that, over the past few days, many of the cats they looked after daily began to disappear in large numbers. Some were later found dead.

Initial findings suggest that the animals were intentionally poisoned. The police have already been informed and have launched an investigation.

The Ecological Movement emphasized that poisoning animals is a serious criminal offense under Cypriot law. Animal advocates are urging law enforcement to carry out a thorough investigation and are asking anyone with relevant information to come forward and contact the authorities.
