Paris Hosts the Closing Ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games

The 2024 Summer Olympic Games, the XXXIII Olympiad, concluded in Paris. The grand closing ceremony was held on Sunday, August 11, at the Stade de France.

The ceremony began with the procession of participating countries' flags, followed by a parade of athletes and the awarding of the women’s marathon winners. International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach then officially declared the games closed. The Olympic flame was ceremoniously extinguished by athletes from various countries.

The closing ceremony in Paris concluded with Frank Sinatra’s iconic song, “My Way.”

The Olympic flag was passed to the mayor of Los Angeles, where the next Summer Olympic Games will take place in 2028.

The Paris Olympic Games were held from July 26 to August 11.

The United States team topped the medal standings, securing a total of 126 medals—40 gold, 44 silver, and 42 bronze.

China finished second with 91 medals: 40 gold, 27 silver, and 24 bronze.

Japan secured third place, albeit with a considerable gap, collecting 45 medals (20 gold, 12 silver, and 13 bronze).

The only medal for the Cyprus team at the Paris Olympics was won by 34-year-old sailor Pavlos Kontides, who finished second in the Laser yacht race in the Marseille harbor. This is the second Olympic medal in the history of the Republic of Cyprus, and both have been won by Pavlos Kontides.
