TRNC Police Receive Report from Turkey in Infant Alcohol Poisoning Case

The police in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) have received a report from the Turkish Forensic Medicine Institute regarding the tragic case of infant poisoning involving alcohol-contaminated baby formula at the neonatal intensive care unit of Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital.

Kudret Özersay, leader of the People's Party (HP), shared the update on social media, stating that the crucial forensic report has now been delivered to the Nicosia Police Department.

"According to police sources, based on the autopsy report, a case file is being prepared and will soon be submitted to the TRNC Attorney General’s Office for legal assessment. Following this, all those found responsible will face the necessary legal consequences," Özersay wrote.

The incident took place in October last year, when seven newborns in the NICU suddenly became critically ill. Tragically, 20-day-old Mihrimah Toymuradova passed away.

Following her death, an investigation was launched immediately. The medical staff on duty were suspended, and five hospital employees were later arrested in connection with the case. They are facing charges of negligence and failing to take proper safety precautions.

During the investigation, police confirmed that ethyl alcohol had been mixed into the infants’ food, leading to the poisoning.
