Symposium on Preserving Religious Buildings to Be Held in North Cyprus
A symposium dedicated to the preservation of religious buildings will take place in North Cyprus, where experts will discuss innovative technologies used in restoring historical monuments.
Titled “Sustainable Approaches to the Conservation and Restoration of Religious Buildings,” the event is being jointly organized by the Cyprus Foundations Administration, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Türkiye, the General Directorate of Foundations, and Eastern Mediterranean University.
The symposium will be held on May 27 at the historic Bedesten building in northern Nicosia, located next to the Selimiye Mosque, which recently reopened following major renovations.
Throughout the forum, participants will explore key topics such as sustainability, earthquake resilience, and scientific conservation methods, using the restored Selimiye Mosque as a case study to demonstrate how these approaches can be applied to other religious and historical structures.
The program will feature discussions on:
-
“Seismic Assessment and Retrofitting of Churches”
-
“Earthquake Resistance and Structural Integrity of Historic Buildings”
-
“Cultural Heritage Conservation Practices: The Case of Selimiye Mosque in Nicosia”
